How are dental crowns and bridges placed?
The application of dental crowns and dental bridges requires at least two appointments.
For dental crown placement, our dentist will first prepare the tooth by removing any decay before shaping it so the permanent crown can fit snuggly on top. A mold will be taken, and a temporary crown will be placed until the final version is crafted. Once complete and in our office, our dentist will ensure that your crown looks and feels great before bonding it in place with dental cement.
The process for dental bridges is similar and requires that the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are filed down for crowns. A mold is then taken, which is used in the creation of each crown, as well as a pontic (filler) tooth. Temporary restorations will be placed until the final restoration is complete, and once ready, the bridge will be checked for fit and aesthetics before being bonded in place.
What benefits do these restorations provide?
Dental crowns and bridges can help improve the appearance and longevity of your smile, as well as protect weak teeth from further damage. Crowns fit over the top of a prepared tooth, providing additional strength and support to keep it healthy and strong, while bridges can help improve the appearance of your smile by filling in the gaps left by missing teeth.
Who can benefit from dental crowns and bridges?
While most patients with damaged or missing teeth are likely to benefit from these restorative services, it’s important to consult with our dentist to confirm whether they’re an option for you.
